What: Council For Jews With Special Needs, Inc. Where: Scottsdale, Arizona On Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 The Council For Jews With Special Needs will hold its 22nd annual dinner and auction.The theme this year is The Best of Broadway, West of Broadway. The mission of CJSN is to provide programs, resources, and support to help all Jews with disabilities and their families to fulfill their spiritual, cultural, and religious needs.What: HabilitatHabilitat is a non-profit organization located in Kaneohe, Hawaii for people with substance abuse treatment and anti-social behavior. It was funded in 1971 and is one of the largest and most successful of its kind. Individuals they work with vary in age from 18-60 and come from all over the world. The program includes a 24 month live-in experience that challenges them on every level. Money raised from this event will go to further help people in this organization seeking help.  What: Long Island Cancer Help and Wellness Center Where: October 29th Platinum Plush is having a charity event along with the Long Island Cancer Help and Wellness Center, taking place on Sunday October 29th. They are looking to bring education and awareness to women and girls of all ages. One of their specialists will be providing such information, along with screening information, to the women in attendance. Further , a portion of all sales for the day long event will be donated to their center to further aid in their initiatives for: advocacy, awareness, research, and ensuring access to advanced medical diagnosis and treatment. This event has been promoted to many of the surrounding towns, their middle and high schools, and the nearby Hofstra University (a couple of the sororities have made this a date in their philanthropic planner). The Long Island Cancer Help and Wellness Center has been around since 1994 helping increase research into the cause, treatment, and cure of breast cancer. What: AIDS Walk Los Angeles Where: Los Angeles, California October 15, 2006 an AIDS Walk-a-thon will be held in Los Angeles presented by the Hilton family. Charm and Luck sponsored a team for this event to support the programs of AIDS Project Los Angeles and other AIDS services across Los Angeles County. This event will help the ongoing research and treatment of AIDS to men, women and children affected by HIV and AIDS in Los Angeles. What: National Center for Missing and Exploited ChildrenMore than 2,000 children are reported missing each day in the United States and 1.3 million children run away annually in our country. The NCMEC was founded in 1984 to assist in the recovery of missing children and to raise public awareness about ways to prevent child abduction, molestation, and sexual exploitation. In 2005 NCMEC/NY safely assisted in the recovery of 886 children throughout their poster distribution and case-assistance programs. Their staff members have educated over 41,486 parents, children, teachers, law enforcements, and other professionals just in New York! Each year they have auctions, sponsors, donations, and purchase advertising to help support this wonderful cause. What: GLOW Where: Yorba Linda YMCA What happens when you bring hair and fashion together for a good cause? You get GLOW! GLOW brought both together on Sunday October 31st at the YMCA in Yorba Linda. As the models sashayed down the runway they showed off some of the newest hairstyle trends and Asian influenced clothing with a lot of linear elements in fall colors. The money made from the tickets as well as the auctions went to to helping the children at the local YMCA. YMCA of Yorba Linda has been building the bridge between parent and child and strengthening over 300 families in Yorba Linda/Placentia area. What: Cystic Fibrosis FoundationEach year the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation raises funds that go towards research and finding effective treatments leading to a cure for this disease. This disease affects over 30,000 children and adults in the United States. CF is a life-threatening respiratory and digestive system disease, and the median age of survival for a person with this disease is the early thirties. CF Foundation does yearly auctions every year to support going towards finding a cure, last year over $300,000 was raised. What: Revlon 5K Run/Walk For Women’s Cancers Where: Times Square New York Celebrity guests Susan Sarandon, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and Christopher Meloni all came together to help support women’s cancers such as breast cancer. Money raised from this event goes to supporting women’s cancers, research, and help providing diagnostic treatment services for medically under-served women. Funds raised also go to counseling and outreach programs. Over 40,000 men, women, and children participated in this event to ensure a brighter future for the fight against cancer! What: Push America- an event that raises awareness for people with disabilities Where: A 4,000 mile, 10 week bike ride that starts in San Francisco and ends in Washington D.C. College Senior Steve Platte from Colorado State University helped raise money on behalf of Pi Kappa Fraternity, to aid people with disabilities all over the United States. It is called the Journey of Help 2006 and they ride an average of 75 miles a day and make nightly visits with local disabled people in the community. This is the 19th year that 85 men from Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity from all across the country will be riding together. Steve Platte alone raised $10,000 and Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity has raised millions of dollars each year. What: SOS Children's Village Davao Orphanage Where: Davao City, Philippines With loving support, SOS Children's Village Davao Orphanage has been helping young children for 25 years. They provide shelter, food, medical aid, and in addition they build a home and family for children in need. They provide the concept of long-term family care and education, which enables these children to choose their own field of vocation. This gives children the opportunity to go from being orphaned and abandoned to becoming teachers, doctors, social workers, entrepreneurs, and serving others.What: Paul Mitchell HIV Walkathon Where: Costa Mesa Charm and Luck Design Assistant Erika Medina and friend Suzie Zepedia participated in the 5k walkathon. Proceeds from all the sponsors went to aid in supporting the fight against HIV. Funds go towards research and finding a cure. |
